TABLE MOUNTAIN WINE SAFARI

Enjoy a once in a lifetime view of Table Mountain and Cape Town city from the only 4x4 allowed to operate within this unique national park.

Meet at the base of Table Mountain and slowly make your way by 4x4 to the Kings Block House, halfway up the imposing Devil's Peak. The views from this location are breathtakingly beautiful and take in all of Cape Town city, Table Bay and False Bay, the distant winelands and the majestic mountain ranges beyond. Take a short walk around the historic area to get acquainted with the site and return to bubbles and snacks on arrival while your guide explains the origins of the fort above you.

Finally, enjoy a picnic style lunch with delicious South African cheeses, charcuterie and a variety of spreads perfectly paired with a range of local South African wines.

Full Day Experience

Enjoy a foodie foraging and wine experience on an organic wine estate that sits on 160-hectares of sustainably farmed land and vineyards in the well known Paarl region.

Upon arrival, you’ll visit the Tasting Gallery to enjoy a glass of the wineries superb sparkling wine before joining the chef on a unique foodie experience: foraging for your own lunch.

Next, you’ll experience a one-of-a-kind 4×4 Eco Wine Safari through the biodynamic vineyards while the chef prepares your three course meal. Upon return to the winery you’ll sit down for your foraged lunch, each course paired with one of the organic wines from the estate.

PENINSULA FORAGING ADVENTURE

The Cape Peninsula is exceedingly beautiful and offers a window to some of the most fascinating biodiversity on the planet. From the fynbos on the mountain side to the marine life of the ocean rock pools, there is endless beauty all around you.

On this unique adventure, you’ll learn about all the indigenous edibles as you find them in nature and learn how to forage for them in a sustainable way.

The experience involves combing the beaches and rock pools for edible morsels to be picked and collected for lunch. When you’ve gathered enough you’ll return to the home of your foraging guide to prepare and cook a truly local feast paired with a selection of excellent local wines.

PRIVATE LUNCH OR DINNER IN THE VINEYARDS

Enjoy a private, catered lunch or dinner in the vineyards at a beautiful, boutique wine estate. This unique and immersive experience is unrivaled in its ability to highlight the beauty of the South African countryside and its diverse people.

A special menu can be arranged based on your preferences and the produce available in the garden. The produce is grown and gathered from the farm and locally sourced ingredients like free range beef, fresh organic farm eggs, locally pressed olive oil and goats cheese from the neighbouring estates are also incorporated into the menu.

With glass in hand, you’ll enjoy a guided tour of the gardens that inspired the menu that day before sitting down to your privately catered lunch or dinner in the vineyards.

PRIVATE CATERED BEACH or Mountain PICNIC

Picnics are an excellent way to slow down, unwind and immerse yourself in your surroundings and there are few better natural surroundings than the Cape Peninsula.

Arrive at a preselected destination to your own stylised picnic setup complete with a picnic hamper and all the bells and whistles: blankets and scatter cushions, low tables and proper cutlery and crockery. Everything you need for an outdoor picnic extravaganza.

When you’ve had your fill and enjoyed a glass of wine or two you’ll carry on with your day of exploring the beautiful Cape.

Menus can be tailored to cater for all dietary requirements and picnic spots are located on the Cape Peninsula and in and around the city (excluding the winelands).

WINE & BRAAI AT A BOUTIQUE VINEYARD

There’s nothing more South African than a braai. It’s an important local ritual where friends and families come together to relax, celebrate and socialise.

The Explore Sideways team arranges braai experiences at a number of beautiful, boutique wineries with talented and passionate chefs using local produce. It’s the best way to experience South African culture and a great element to add to any tour of the winelands.

This is a four hour experience hosted at a boutique winery with a local chef and includes a cellar tour and guided wine tasting before lunch or dinner.

CAPE COOKING CLASS IN A PRIVATE HOME

During this immersive experience you’ll be hosted by a professional chef in his quirky and charming home in the coastal town of Hout Bay, Cape Town.

He’ll teach you the best way to fold a “samoosa” and how to make traditional South African dishes like smoked snoek pate and of course our famous malva pudding, all from scratch. Cooking classes can be themed around certain local cuisines too. For example, learn how to cook Cape Malay curries, mix your own spices or enjoy a traditional South African Braai (barbecue) Experience!
